William Kaser, DVM, Hospital Director, Medical Director
Dr. William Kaser began working at Brewster Veterinary Hospital in 2010. He partnered with Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod and purchased the practice in 2015. He currently acts as Brewster Veterinary Hospital’s medical director. A native of Cape Cod, Dr. Kaser began practicing in 1999. Most of his experience is in general practice. He is one of the original founders of the Cape's only emergency and specialty hospital in Dennis, Massachusetts. Dr. Kaser is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. He is also federally accredited.
Before veterinary school, Dr. Kaser earned undergraduate degrees from Cape Cod Community College and Murray State. He went on to attend University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Dr. Kaser’s professional interests include internal medicine, general surgery and dentistry. He especially values the relationships he has established with his patients and clients.
At his home in Brewster, Dr. Kaser lives with his wife Megan, their three children and their many pets that include dogs, cats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, a cow and a goat. He enjoys the outdoors and working on his hobby farm.
Tom Burns, DVM, Hospital Director

In his own words, Dr. Burns decided to become a veterinarian because, “It’s what I was born to do. I’ve always loved science and medicine. It’s a totally natural fit.” Dr. Burns lives by the mantra that if you are not improving, you are declining. To that end, he always strives to bring his absolute best to every patient visit, working to enhance the quality of life of each pet that he sees.
Dr. Burns first became the Hospital Director of Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod in 2005. He is also proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Cape Animal Referral & Emergency Center (CARE) and previously served as President of the Cape Cod Veterinary Medical Association.
As a testament to his commitment to excellence, Dr. Burns received an honorary citation from Governor Deval Patrick, Speaker of the House Salvatore DiMasi, State Rep. Cleon Turner and the Massachusetts House of Representatives in recognition of his vital role in protecting the local commonwealth from the spread of rabies.
Pets are an integral part of Dr. Burn’s family, and part of his commitment to service comes from the knowledge that pets everywhere deserve the highest quality of care possible.
Dr. Burns lives with his wife Whitney and their three children, Jack, Ellie, and Chloe, alongside their two Goldendoodles, Fin and Zoe. He also enjoys kayaking, paddle boarding and underwater photography. In fact, in 2015, Dr. Burns completed a ten-week assignment with National Geographic in conjunction with their widely popular, Nat Geo Wild Channel. His photos on white sharks and underwater life have been published around the world, but nothing makes him happier than caring for your pets here in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
Lee Winer, BVSc
Dr. Lee Winer joined Brewster Veterinary Hospital in September of 2021. She is a member of both the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the American Veterinary Medical Association.
From a young age, growing up in Wayland MA, Dr. Winer knew she was drawn to animals, particularly cats! She would take every opportunity to pet sit for her neighbors, where she enjoyed being able to care for animals, especially if they were feeling ill, sparking her interest in ways to help them feel better.
In her high school years, Dr. Winer started hanging out at a local veterinary practice where she eventually got hired as a veterinary assistant. She graduated from McGill University with a degree in Zoology. She then worked as a vet tech for 2 years before deciding to go to vet school. She travelled across the globe to attend vet school at the University of Sydney and graduated in 2011.
While Dr. Winer's professional interests include dentistry, geriatric care, and our feline friends, she feels that what makes her job so great is being able to help sustain and nurture the human-animal bond. Our pets and animals are amazing creatures that she is honored to be able to advocate for and keep them as healthy and happy as possible.
Outside of work, Dr. Winer has a cat of her own, named Nemo, whom she adopted back in 2008 in Australia. She has a husband, Dale, who is currently a stay-at-home dad to their little boy Eli. Dr. Winer also enjoys running, field hockey, hiking, snowboarding, and crafts when time allows.
Susan Neary, DVM

At an early age, Dr. Susan Neary had dreamed of caring for a farm complete with animals of all sorts. In pursuit of her passion, her schooling began at Oregon and Washington State University Schools of Veterinary Medicine in which she graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honors Fraternity.
As a veterinarian as well as a veterinary acupuncturist with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Neary is also a licensed acupuncturist in the human field. She revels in the success of acupuncture in conditions that medications cannot solely manage.
Dr. Neary has owned and operated two veterinary hospitals in the Seattle area for a dozen years before deciding to sell both practices and pursue Masters’ degrees in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MOAM) and Pain Research, Education and Policy (MS-PREP). This skill set coupled with a strong commitment to bridge eastern and western medicine allows her to use integrative approaches to the complex problem of pain management with special interest in osteoarthritis, degenerative and neurological conditions, post-surgical and palliative care patients.
Dr. Neary is a member of the Board of Governors for the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management (IVAPM.org) and President of the Cape Cod Veterinary Medical Association. She is recognized for her visionary and pioneering attributes and is enjoying this progressive veterinary experience to improve the quality of life in both animals and people.
Dr. Murphy, DVM
Meet Dr. Liz Murphy, a compassionate and experienced veterinarian with a unique journey in the world of medicine. From her early days in southern Indiana, Dr. Murphy felt a profound connection with animals and a passion for medicine. Initially pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant, she dedicated herself to Pediatric Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital after graduating from Duke University.
Driven by her deep love for animals, Dr. Murphy later took a transformative step in her medical career by applying to the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. This decision marked a turning point, opening the door to a fulfilling life as a veterinarian. Over the course of 25 years, Dr. Murphy practiced in Indianapolis, gaining valuable experience and insights into the beautiful relationships shared between people and their pets.
Always one to embrace change, Dr. Murphy, along with her husband Mark Kesling, their beloved shaggy dog Sally, and charming cat Puppy, returned to her favorite place in New England - Cape Cod. Beyond her veterinary expertise, Dr. Murphy finds joy in various hobbies, including hiking, kayaking, and expressing her artistic side through pet portraits, photography, and writing.
In 2017, Dr. Murphy authored the book "How to Age-Proof Your Dog: The Art and Science of Successful Canine Aging" (Rowman and Littlefield), showcasing her commitment to enhancing the well-being of furry companions. With a heart full of love for animals and a wealth of experience, Dr. Liz Murphy continues to make a positive impact in the lives of pets and their owners.
